A photojournalist I work with shared this story with us and I found it significantly moving. As quoted by him, it truly is "photojournalism at its best".
http://www.dallasnews.com/s/dws/photogr ... 09/thomas/I'd be lying if I said this story didn't nearly bring me to tears. I cannot fathom, even remotely, what it would be like to be faced with such a decision. It's often difficult to grasp such deep human concepts such as life, until it's brought down to such a small scale you can see it, right there before you, in one moment. Even the most empathetic person cannot even begin to imagine what world that infant saw, or how he felt, or how he thought of the world around him. Knowing that you could never understand this exposes an emotional realization that we're complex and unique beings with little to no real understanding of our perception of life, that of others or our own.
